Doane was a 19th century industrialist, philantropist, and hymnist from Ohio. Crosby was a 19th century blind teacher, poet, and hymnist from New York. Crouch was a late 20th Century hymnist and pastor from San Francisco. The hymn was greatly popularized in the 1950's throughout the US, the UK, and Australia, due to its use by Billy Graham's ministry. This arrangement starts off with an exerpt from Crouch's 1971 work. Sections A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the chorus. A modulation to a new key occurs and the end of section B with the help of an French augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added to the new key.
