Composed by Zequinha de Abreu. Arranged by Kazuhiro Morita. Chamber Music. Ensemble. Score & parts. Duration 3:00. Bravo Music #ENMS-84193. Published by Bravo Music (BZ.ENMS-84193).
The original is a Latin style song from 1917 by Brazilian composer Zequinha de Abreu (real name Jose Gomez de Abreu, 1880-1935). The official title is "Tico Tico no Fuba" (at the time of announcement, "Tico Tico no Farero"). "Tico Tico" is a small bird resembling a sparrow, and "Fuba" is grain flour such as corn and rice. The lyrics by Aloygio de Oliveira are the humorous singing of a farmer who grinds the powder hard and Tycho Tycho who pecks the seeds one after another. The improvised choro-style music is a perfect match. This work was later done by samba singer Carmen Miranda, who introduced it to the United States in the movie "Copacabana" (1947), and it became a worldwide hit. This arrangement for clarinet ensemble was written in 1984 for the Tokyo Clarinet Ensemble, which was active at that time. (Kazuhiro Morita).
