This song cycle uses two texts by John Donne as the outer movements, No Man Is an Island and Death Be Not Proud and Sonnet XXX by William Shakespeare as the middle movement. Each is dedicated to the memory of a voice teacher I worked for and that had a profound influence on me.
These are for medium voice with a range of Bb-F and very lyrical and at times dramatic. The orchestrations are colorful and lush and supportive of the voice and text.
