Deceptively easy
This is a great introduction to Folk Song styles for young bands or indeed for adult amateurs. It is not technically challenging but to play the three movements convincingly and with style is something many band musicians will find requires great control. The first movement in particular is interesting: despite the good arranging it could sound trite if not sensitively performed. Flex arrangements have great advantages for small bands but the downside is often with blandness in the scoring. With the Gloucester Ayres this is not as noticeable. The set the 3 short movements provides an excellent foil to other more boisterous pieces in a well constructed concert programme.
