THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS INTERMEZZO (TAUSEND UN EINE NACHT INTERMEZZO) is named after the opera INDIGO UN DIE VIERTZIG RAEUBER (INDIGO AND THE FORTY THIEVES) by Johann Strauss II. Premiered on February 10, 1871 at the Theater an der Wien in Vinna, his first performed operetta is based on the famous tale of Ali Baba from One Thousand and One Nights. Revising the work after its first performance, Strauss consequently developed a variety of shorter pieces using motives from the stage work. In 1906, after his death, film composer Max Steiner created a third version of the operetta which was performed under the title THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS. Not to be confused with the Thousand and One Nights Waltz, Op. 346, this intermezzo displays an exotic, melancholy lyricism. This Kalmus edition is arranged by Bruno Hartmann. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 3Sax(AAT): 4.2.3.0: Timp.Perc(1 Opt.): Hp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set): Pno Cond Sc in set. Reprint edition.
