This arrangement of “This Is the Life” by Amy MacDonald is designed for a flexible chamber music ensemble and is suitable for both classroom instruction and ensemble performances.
The melody is carried by the alto recorder and harmonically complemented by the soprano recorder. Both parts are written in such a way that they shine equally well when played solo or in ensemble. The piano part forms the harmonic foundation and can alternatively be played by other keyboard instruments such as a keyboard, harpsichord, or electric piano.
The bass line is written for double bass but can be played just as effectively by cello, bassoon, or a sub-bass recorder. Optionally, a guitar can complement the arrangement and enrich it both rhythmically and harmonically.
Thanks to this flexible instrumentation, the piece can be adapted to different ensembles and configurations without losing the characteristic groove and catchy melody of the original.
