Theophoros werd geschreven in opdracht van NEOS Brass in 2008 en werd bijgevolg oorspronkelijk voor groot koperensemble en slagwerk gecomponeerd. Na een jaar werd de partituur voor fanfareorkest verschreven. Theophoros, een Grieks woord dat 'door de goden geïnspireerd' betekent, bestaat uit drie delen die elk een god of een godin uitbeelden. Deel I: Hermes, boodschapper van de goden. Elke belangrijke gebeurtenis op aarde of op de Olympusberg werd door Hermes aan Zeus, de oppergod, gemeld. Men vindt zijn snelheid terug in dit eerste deel dat begint met zijn aankomst bij de tempel van de goden om goed nieuws te melden. Deel II: Aphrodite, godin van de liefde. Dit is een traag romantisch deel dat over liefdesverhalen tussen mannen en vrouwen vertelt. Helaas kennen deze liefdesverhalen in de Griekse mythologie meestal geen goed einde. Deel III: Hermaphroditus, zoon van Hermes en AphroditeDe mooie Hermaphroditus was verzot op zijn eigen prachtige uiterlijk. Een nimf bezweek voor zijn schoonheid en besprong Hermaphroditus die haar niet kon overmeesteren. Plots bleek de nimf verdwenen. Hermaphroditus was niet langer een man, maar ook geen vrouw, wel beide tezamen. Na een tijdje geklaagd te hebben, leerde hij zijn nieuwe uiterlijk te waarderen en vond hij zichzelf mooier dan ooit

Theophoros was commissioned by NEOS Brass in 2008 and therefore originally composed for large brass choir and percussion. After a year the full score has been transcripted for Fanfare Band. Theophoros, a Greek word meaning inspired by the gods, consists of three parts, each describing a God or Goddess. Movement I: Hermes, messenger of the godsEvery important event on earth or on mount Olympus was passed by Hermes to Zeus, the king of Gods. His enormous acceleration and speed are found in the movement. The movement starts with his arrival at the temple of Gods bringing good news. Movement II: Aphrodite, goddess of loveA slow romantic movement telling the stories of love between men and women. But most of the time these love stories in Greek mythology do not end well. Movement III: Hermaphroditus, son of Hermes and AphroditeThe beautiful Hermaphroditus was very fond of his magnificent appearance. A nymph was falling for his beauty and wanted to become one. The nymph jumps on Hermaphroditus, he struggles but can not win the fight. Suddenly the nymph seems to have disappeared. Hermaphroditus is no longer a man, nor he is a women, he has become both. After a short time of morrowing, he learns to appreciate his new looks and is even more beautiful as he was before

Theophoros était écrit à la commande du NEOS Brass en 2008 et était donc destiné d’abord au grand ensemble de cuivres et percussion. Un an après, la partition était transcrite pour fanfare. Theophoros, qui en grecque veut dire ‘inspiré par les dieux’ consiste en trois mouvements qui représentent chacun un dieu ou une déesse.

Theophoros entstand 2008 im Auftrag von NEOS Brass und war ursprünglich für großes Blechbläserensemble und Schlagzeug instrumentiert. Ein Jahr später entstand die hier vorliegende Fassung für Fanfareorchester. Theophoros, ein griechisches Wort das übersetzt bedeutet „inspiriert durch die Götter“, besteht aus drei Teilen, von denen jeder einen Gott oder eine Göttin beschreiben.
