This American folk tune has been in the collective memory of the USA for well over a century. There are concert versions, country versions, children's tune version and many more. Here we have an intermediate level piano solo (with a verse of text above the treble clef in the event that the player wants to sing along) in a ragtime, or "goodtime" piano style. Attention has been given to making this version "pianistic," and not merely a transcription of the tune. The left hand is etude-like (and occasionally polyphonic) and not just a standard accompaniment patter. It contains common "licks" that often appear in country and rock music making and is almost competitive for attention alongside the melody.
