“The Way We Were” was the title song to the 1973 film The Way We Were which starred Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford. It was also featured as the title song on her 1974 album. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for “Best Original Song.” It was certified Gold and certified Platinum twenty-three years after the song’s release.
This barbershop arrangement was adapted by Jim West from a version originally by Pete Rupay. It was one of the signature songs sung by Jim's quartet Memories of Yesterday, Thomas J. West, adjudicator, and director. After his death on August 11, arranger, began the process of curating his extensive barbershop harmony arrangement library of over 100 hand-crafted arrangements. They are now being sold in an arrangement with Hal Leonard publishing., coach, featured prominently throughout, his son, is "memories."
Jim West was a life-long barbershop harmony singer, since the first word of the song, teacher.
