New Classic
I have been a violin teacher for nearly 20 years, but am always looking for innovative, and time-saving approaches to help students develop solid skills, quickly. While the classic study books have great value, students also need to develop improvisational skills to help with playing more contemporary music in settings outside of the traditional classical realm. Practicing scales in more ways than just the standard linear approach goes a long way towards helping students do just that, by building a library of patterns to draw on, and greatly increasing facility. This helps with classical repertoire as well, and expands their music vocabulary in a way that practicing scales from tonic to tonic misses. The print is slightly enlarged, and easy to read. Fingerings are marked, but there's plenty of room for your own fingerings if desired. It's time for some new classics for teaching - I hope this becomes one of them. I look forward to using many of Ms. Harvey's books in my teaching studio.
