This String Orchestra version arose out of Chris' creation of the String Quartet by the same name having been created for and performed in the 2002 for the Opera New Brunswick production of The Marco Polo Suite-a Folk Opera. This version providing more depth and power. The presence of a conductor enabling the orchestra to perform it at ever accelerating tempi. The tempest is seen approaching from afar. Marching closer orders were given for the hatches to be battened down and all to stay below and pray. Turbulence hits the ship, winds ever increasing tearing at the sheets, halyards whipping the wooden constructs until the storm abates, resolving into a sudden quiet and an attacca into The Calm, another of Jim Stewart's memorable pieces converted for String’s performance.
