The Storm as a string quartet, was arranged by Chris to allow the SJSQ to perform with folk musicians ( pipes, whistles and dualing percussionists ). All depicting a storm at sea experienced by the sailing ship Marco Polo. Seen approaching from afar, hatches battened down with orders for all to stay below and pray, the turbulence hit the ship. Winds, and here the tempo; ever increasing. Tearing at the sheets the halyards whipping the ship's wooden constructs . This arrangement should be performed with ever increasing tempi until the storm quickly abates. It was first performed in the 2002 for the Opera New Brunswick production of The Marco Polo Suite-a Folk Opera and was intended to lead attacca into another of Chris’ string quartet arrangements :The Calm .
