It’s sung by Maria as she stands on an Austrian hillside, expressing the joy, freedom, and spiritual uplift she feels in nature. This arrangement opens with the verse using an “echo” effect. Everyone plays the melody at some point during the tune. The bridge uses piu mosso, rit. and meno mosso to great effect. The song modulates as a final gesture while broadening out it’s tempo.
