The Song of Ruth is what I have created as an"Operanthem," a composition for SATB choir with piano accompaniment which tells a sacred story with soloists using the elements of opera. Since Ruth is one of the most beautiful love stories of the Bible, I set the story to an earlier composition " Wedding Processional" which one can find on Sheet Music Plus under composer under John W. Fisher. I wove three basic themes, the introduction, the processional and the love song which was based on Perry Como's "Catch a Falling Star." The soloists are Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz with duets near the conclusion by Boaz and Ruth. Performance time is approximately five minutes. Like my recently published book Sermon Songs for the Gospel According to Mark, it is based on sermon notes and pure scriptural references.
