“The Prisoner’s Song”, (1924) [also known as ‘Meet Me By Moonlight’; ‘Prison Walls’; &/or ‘If I Had the Wings of Angel’] attributed to the Massey Boys (Robert and Guy) but credited to Vernon Dalhart, was a huge hit of the 1920’s due to its simple melody, and pseudo-southern-folksong character. It served as inspiration for songs like the hymn-tune ‘I’ll Fly Away’. The lyrics speak of isolation, regret, and dreams of a better life. An apt piece to program requiring a musical selection of unrequited love. This arrangement is for 4-part TTBB ensemble to be performed a cappella. Performance time: 3:06+-.
