A sequence of sacred choruses on texts from the prophet Isaiah. One of the finest 20th-century works for unaccompanied chorus. Pulitzer prize-winner, Douglas Moore (at the time chairman of Columbia U. Music Dept.) wrote to Thompson in 1936: "...I want to go on record as believing that you have written the best modern choral work I have heard. It is good from every point of view. Technical treatment of the voices, understanding and expression of the text, and actual musical content which is fresh and beautiful."

Peaceable kingdom will always be in my heart.
This composition was presented to my singing group in college, it added something in my life that i didnt expect. I loved music, but not this kind of music! I was young and rebellious and love soul music and gospel and this didnt fit my taste, but as i learned each piece the harmonies and the movement of the songs moved me. To this day, some 30 years later, i can still sing most without pausing and it still moves my soul.
