Composed by Alice Mary Smith (1839-1884). Arranged by edited by John M. Laverty. This edition: pdf. 19th Century, Classical. Full Orchestra. 165 pages. Zephyrwindmusic.com #1377485. Published by zephyrwindmusic.com (A0.1817346).
Full score and parts for orchestra. British composer Alice Mary Smith (1839-1884) wrote The Passions Overture in her early 40s, shortly before her death. It was performed four times during her lifetime yet like all of her other works for orchestra, it was never published. This edition is the first publication. Despite the many challenges faced by a female composer in Victorian era Great Britain, Smith’s compositions during this period of her life received a high level of praise from the British press. Despite this early praise, Smith never received the long-term recognition her talents deserved. This edition is based entirely on Smith’s original manuscript. It is highly edited including an update to modern instrumentation and the addition of missing/ inconsistent dynamics and articulations. As with all Zephyrwindmusic publications, parts come with an Unlimited Copy License, thus removing any potential copyright issues. Parts can be used in analog form – printed on paper – or uploaded as a digital part onto a reading device such as an iPad for performance. Parts can also be legally uploaded onto a website for players to download.
Instrumentation:
2 Flutes
2 Oboes
2 Clarinets in B-flat
2 Bassoons
2 Horns in F
2 Trumpets in C
3 Trombones
