Sinds heel lang geleden houden de mensen zich bezig met het raadsel rond het eiland Atlantis. De mythe zegt dat dit prachtige eiland met al zijn bewoners binnen 24 uur compleet in zee verdween. Atlantis werd door de Griekse filosoof Platon (427 tot 347 v. Chr. ) voor de eerste keer genoemd en beschreven. De stad zal (volgens Platon) rond 9600 v. Chr. ter zijde van de 'Zuilen van Heracles' (vandaag bekend als 'Straat van Gibraltar') in de Atlantische Oceaan hebben gelegen. Het gezonken eiland werd vaak gezocht, maar tot heden kon het niet worden gevonden. Het verhaal van Atlantis is omstreden. De meeste historici gaan ervan uit dat het een fantasie van Platon was, maar sommige schrijvers vermoeden een grond van waarheid…

Since long long ago, people have been fascinated by the mystery surrounding the island of Atlantis. The myth says that this beautiful island and all its inhabitants disappeared completely into the sea within 24 hours. Atlantis was first named and described by the Greek philosopher Plato (427-347 BC). According to Plato, Atlantis was situated in front of the 'Pillars of Hercules' (now known as the Straight of Gibraltar) in the Atlantic region, in around 9600 BC.

Depuis très longtemps le mystère autour de l’île d’Atlantis préoccupe les gens. Le mythe raconte que cette île splendide a disparu entièrement dans la mer avec tous ses habitants en moins de 24 heures. Atlantis était décrit pour la première fois par le philosophe grec Platon (427-347 av. J. -C. ). Selon lui, la ville était située en 9600 av. J. -C. environ à côté des 'Piliers de Héracle’ (aujourd’hui le détroit de Gibraltar) dans l’Océan Atlantique.

Schon seit langer Zeit beschäftigen sich die Menschen mit dem Rätsel um die Insel Atlantis. DerMythos besagt, dass die prachtvolle Insel mit allen seine Bewohnern innerhalb von nur einem Tagund einer Nacht komplett im Meer versank. Atlantis wurde vom griechischen Philosoph Platon (427 bis 347 v. Chr. ) zum ersten Mal erwähnt undbeschrieben. Die Stadt soll, ( laut Platon) ca. 9600 v.
