William C. Fry of the London Salvation Army used Hays' 1871 tune for the text inspired by Song of Solomon 2:1 passage in the Bible. Some of the style inspiration here is borrowed from the Friends in Faith Quartet. Three to four measures from the end uses a deceptive cadence and then recaps with the last two phrases of the hymn.
