The first fantasy is based on a melody sung by Mr. Ahangaran during the Iran–Iraq War a day before every attack, used to arouse emotion and excitement among soldiers. Ahangaran was widely known for wearing green clothing associated with IRGC forces. His role was not to fight, but to emotionally prepare young soldiers for death (shahadat). Although he never carried a weapon, his songs contributed to sending a million young men toward death.
Fantasy No. 1 is built on his well-known melody “Ey Lashkar Saheb Zaman,” a tune deeply familiar to many in Iran. In this work, the composer does not glorify the melody; instead, he exposes the fear, darkness, and fatal truth hidden beneath it—the pull toward death masked as devotion.
The title The Green Crow refers to this symbolism: Mr. Ahangaran, dressed in green, is portrayed as the crow: a harbinger of death, not through violence, but through voice—calling young soldiers toward their end.
Fantasies No. 2 and No. 3 complete the trilogy by creating a space in which music overtakes factual narrative. These movements move beyond specific references, allowing sound itself to speak where words and history fall silent.
They were originally written for the Tehran String Quartet in 2004, with the composer performing as second violin alongside with Ali Salehipour, well-known virtuoso as first violin., but they are technically and sonically more effective when performed by a full string orchestra.
