The song also was arranged,edited and with extra lyrics written by Davies Gilbert for Hymns and Carols of God.
Originally the First Noel melody consists of one musical phrase repeated twide,followed by a refrain which is a variation on that phrase.
Also,the "First Nowell" is usually performed in a 4-part hymn arrangement by the English composer John Stainer.first published in his Carols,New and Old in 1871.
Today,this public domain work type of musical arrangement makes possible to include 9 repeated but uniquely different among each other of variations in total in the whole song with the difficulty level and intensity increased as the number of variation is passed over one by one.
