This surprising and fun arrangement of the Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer” was penned in 1979 for The Singers Unlimited for their album, “A Cappella III” (and contained in the “Magic Voices” box set). Puerling’s arrangement captures the fun and playful spirit of early jazz rhythms with as well as bringing the feel forward in a big band “shout” section with a vocal melodic duet on top! The entire piece is a wordless rendition of the song, so the focus is on the familiarity of the tune, treated in a cappella vocal setting. This is NOT a transcription, but an authentic edition created from the handwritten manuscript of Gene Puerling. Most of this piece is divided into six parts, with a four-part introduction to start all the up to a 10-part final crunchy chord!
