Scott Joplin (1868–1917) is renowned as the “King of Ragtime” for composing over 40 ragtime pieces for solo piano, one ragtime ballet, and two operas. The Entertainer was composed in 1902 for solo piano and first published the same year. It gained immediate acclaim and is now regarded as a classic of the genre. It is highly familiar to most audiences thanks to its inclusion in the 1973 motion picture, The Sting.

This arrangement is designated Grade 4 and is suitable for intermediate to advanced concert bands and wind ensembles. This setting is for standard wind band instrumentation with piano. The piano part is not optional, and is featured prominently throughout the arrangement.
