He was awakened from a wonderful dream, sitting with his children by the koi pond, when the bells began ringing wildly, alerting the palace to imminent danger. He turned to his wife, who was already awake with a terrified look on her face. What was the cause of the warning? They had experienced only peace over the last 25 years and there were no disputes with any of the neighboring lands that would lead to an assault on his home…at least none that leapt to mind. Suddenly he heard a large crash, not from inside the palace, but from outside the window which was lit up in a flash of lightning. There must be a storm blowing down from the mountains and by the steady ringing of the bells there was not much time before it struck in all its fury. He must see to the safety of those outside the walls and get them in as quickly as possible. With a calm he had rarely seen, but knew she possessed, his wife began seeing to those inside the palace and getting them to the inner rooms to wait out the maelstrom. She began singing to the younger children to alleviate their fears and soon a chorus of voices were raised in defiance of the storm. The walls were sturdy and would see them safely through the night. Even as the wind howled and hailstones pummeled the rooftops, he could feel a sense of calm radiating through those gathered within. They would see the sun rise on the morrow and begin whatever repairs were necessary, but for now they took comfort and drew strength from one another as the storm raged on.
