The Division Flute

This edition of The Division Flute only includes 3 works rather than the whole collection which is not indicated anywhere on the cover. Also the titles of 2 of the works A division to a Ground and Pauls Steeple are on the wrong piece! Do not waste your money on this edition.

Deceptive title

The Division Flute was published originally by Walsh in 1706, and contained 12 pieces which were examples of the art of divisions, or increasingly complex variations on a simple theme. They were performed above a ground which was a repetitive phrase in the bass line that gave harmonic structure and unity to the piece. This edition only present 3 of the 12 pieces, and is quite incomplete because of it. When I saw the title The Division Flute I expected the complete set of divisions, and there is no indication in the description, or even in the edition itself that 9 of the pieces are ignored. For someone looking for the actual music that goes with the title, this edition is not only very disappointing, but also expensive for what you actually get -- which is a pretty package that contains very little.
