Disappointed
First a trip to the UPS store to have it spiral bound so that it stays open. Seems like all music published by Hal Leanard uses way too much space horizontally between notes or words, extending the songs to too many unnecessary pages. Way too much paper for too few notes. In the case of Bluesette, seven pages. Sometimes only two or three very wide measures per line. Actually notes further apart make it harder to scan/read.A few arrangements are interesting but most are plain vanilla. Out of 88 songs, four I wouldn't be ashamed of playing in gigs as is. Others, I will have to embellish with more chords etc. I wouldn't call it medium difficulty, but maybe beginner to medium difficulty. Where are the good arrangers that made music playable buy interesting?

Doesn't play nice with others
I bought this book along with The Definitive Jazz Collection books for Eb and Bb instruments for our group. I thought that the Eb and Bb books would be transposed song versions of the melodies found in the piano book.They were not. I thought that maybe the first edition Piano book would be work and bought one on E Bay. That didn't work either.

Great book, but caution
We bought this book along with Bb and Eb books from the same collection for our ensemble. However, these books are often in different concert keys requiring at least one of us to transpose. Fortunately we have a great piano player who can do just that, but for this reason I would have to rate this book expert if you plan on using it in an ensemble. I would have given it 5 stars if we had not run into this problem. Otherwise this is one of the best, most flexible series out there.
