Marimba, Marimba Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download
SKU: A0.1664859
Composed by Felicity Constance Mazur-Park. This edition: pdf. 21st Century, Contemporary, Contest, Festival, Thriller. Individual part. 23 pages. Felicity Mazur-Park #1230809. Published by Felicity Mazur-Park (A0.1664859).
Throughout the composition the marimba soloist is traveling through different stages of a
hypothetical civilization. The first movement, entitled “From Simple Origins”, depicts the
crashing thunder with which the civilization rises to greatness. Rehearsal A, entitled “like
the ticking of a clock”, depicts the civilization settling into normalcy. At the end of the first
movement there is the cadenza. The cadenza allows us to develop a cyclical view of the
progression of the civilization. The music occurring before the cadenza represents the first
occurrence of civilization within a given country/nation. This first occurrenceof civilization
has come to an end due to seemingly natural causes when the cadenza begins. The second
movement, entitled “Retrograde”, depicts the second occurrence of civilization. The word
“Retrograde” indicates the second occurrence is similar to the first occurrence but takes
place in reverse. This is echoed in the musical material. The second occurrence of civilization
is less healthy than the first and results in war which takes place in the third movement, titled
“An Utterance of the Sound of War”. The war comes to an anticlimactic end with a quiet marimba
tremolo ending the composition.
