Great value viola collection
The Boosey&Hawkes Viola Anthology has 13 pieces by 11 composers-with piano parts. Several are single movements meant to introduce you to the complete works (first movement of the new Bartok Viola Concerto, transcriptions of the Shostakovich Cello Sonata and Delius Violin Sonata No. 3). But, it has, complete, Britten's Lachrymae, Benjamin's Le Tombeau de Ravel, and a fine transcription of Rachmaninoff's Vocalise. Those 3 pieces would cost $80.00. The Lachrymae alone, one of the great works for viola, costs $23.99. The B&H Viola Anthology is just $24.99, making this a great value.

The Boosey and Hawkes Viola Anthology
I needed a new source of viola solos, but the Rachmaninoff Vocalise was the only one that really appealed to me. Four out of the six Scriabin pieces were OK. The Elena Kats Interlude was OK, as were Barbara Kolb's Cavatina and Paul Ramsier's two pieces. Zion's Walls by Copland could be used in church and was OK. I could do without the technically challenging modern pieces of Bartok, Benjamin and Britten. I definitely did not get my money's worth in this collection.
