Definitely a book to keep around at all times. There are a few good preludes in the bunch.

The book is ok. I was hoping for a little more preludes out of the hymns but I have made good use of all of the material. It is a must have for any organist.

There is a wide variety of material but it is too simple and 'thin' in texture.

Some truly beautiful harmonizations of traditional hymns that can be used on myriad occasions throughout the church calendar year. From the most experienced organist to a beginner.. this book has something for every level of musician.

Two staff alternate arrangements for accompanying singing, preludes and postludes that are easy to read and give variety to your playing. Most are not difficult and give the organist wishing to 'change it up' an easy platform to branch out and learn the basics of improvisation and still feel 'safe'.

I use this book to provide more variety to my hymn playing during services. I find some of the arrangements too easy, but I suppose it is good to thin it out sometimes. I like the harmonizations , I find them more interesting than the Hal Hopson ones. The Rawsthorne ones are the best, but they can be a bit tricky if you're not a good sightreader. So this book would be a good teaching tool or set of reharms for more beginning organists. But it can also be useful to provide depth in a library of an advanced player, or more ideas for improving. One thing I do appreciate is that attention is paid so that there are no awkward page turns.

I ordered both volumes, and I use these books every Sunday in a variety of ways: in addition to free accompaniments, there are many preludes, postludes, and interludes. I can play directly from the book, or use the material in combination with improvisation or other material. This is an excellent investment for any organist, intermediate to advanced.
