Luke 1:27-38.

The Annunciation is a setting of a chorale found in the Speier Gesangbuch, 1615. It tells the story of the Annunciation (based on Luke 1:27-38) by presenting the dialogue between the Virgin Mary and the angel Gabriel. The setting evokes ancient style: the organ begins with a brief intonation and then accompanies the choir with figuration, originally improvised, reminiscent of seventeenth-century keyboard music.
