V. 6-13 Text: Psalm 65.
The words for this anthem of thanksgiving come from verses 6 - 13 of Psalm 65, as found in the early twentieth-century American Psalter, The Psalter (1912). The creation of this Psalter was the result of a collaboration between several American Reformed denominations. Unlike other Psalters (including the popular 1562 Genevan Psalter), The Psalter (1912) only used texts that were regular in meter. The Psalm text used in this anthem is in three stanzas and my setting of it is, likewise, in three sections. "Thanksgiving was enthusiastically received by the choirs and parishioners of St. Paul’s Church in Winston-Salem and especially by The Reverend John Shields to whom the piece was dedicated. It is a lovely piece of easy to moderate difficulty which will be useful not only at Thanksgiving but for many other occasions as well. The frequent paring of upper and lower voices makes this accessible to smaller choirs, and the effect is quite noble with the organ accompaniment." -- Reflections on the premiere by John Cummins, Organist/Choirmaster, St. Paul’s Church, Winston-Salem, NC SATB Chorus, Organ Duration: 4' Text: Psalm 65, v. 6-13 from The Psalter (1912) Composed: 2008 Publishd by: Subito Music Corporation Minimum order quantity: 8 copies.
