Sweney was a hymnist from Pennsylvania in the 19th Century. His music here was used in one of Fanny J. Crosby's many hymns. The song goes from Jesus' birth to his death, burial, and resurrection. Between section C and D, two augmented sixth chords (Italian and German) are used in modualting to the new key. A descant by yours truly is then added.
