The set of nine Sonatas for two flutes TWV 40: 141 - 149 were composed between 1755 - 1760 for two flutes but were not published during Telemann’s life time. They are clearly intended for well matched players of good intermediate standard and above. Dynamics are rarely indicated in the manuscript so I have added a few suggestions. Phrasing is largely only indicated on the first appearance of a theme and I have followed through and matched the phrasing in both parts.
If the Sonatas had been published when Telemann was alive, they would almost certainly have been described as also suitable for oboes or violins. I have also added clarinets to the list. The Sonatas were clearly intended for pairs of the same instrument to play together.
