“Tears in Heaven” was born in 1992 out of unspeakable grief: Eric Clapton wrote it after the death of his son Conor, just four years old. It is one of the most moving songs in contemporary music — a silent dialogue with someone no longer there, suspended between longing and resignation, between question and grace.

In this SATB choral arrangement with soloists, the original melody is preserved in its essential simplicity, carried mainly by sopranos and tenors. The choral harmony opens gradually, growing richer in colour and tension, accompanying the text like a breath that deepens with each phrase. In the coda, the melodic and textual fragments of the song —“Would you hold my hand”, “I must be strong”, “There will be no more tears in heaven”— chase one another across the voices, like dreams and memories slowly entwining, threads of longing drawn together until they become one quiet, unshakeable certainty.
