Over nearly a decade now, Craig Phillips has shown himself to be one of the most accomplished of composers of sacred music. His latest anthem is dedicated to his colleague at All-Saints Church in Beverly Hills, Thomas Foster. Phillips has created a moving setting of this famous George Herbert text. The first tow verses are set for four parts while the third verse changes to the minor mode, creating a deeper color. The fourth verse returns to the mood of the opening and concludes in quietude. Low basses will be needed to fully bring out the depth of this exceptional piece.
