Composed by Bruce Saylor. Cathedral/Parish. Choral, General. Octavo. Paraclete Press #0031. Published by Paraclete Press (PL.0031).
This anthem was commissioned for the 150th anniversary celebration of the arrival of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in New York. It is based on an original hymn-tune as well as the antiphon "Sinite parvulos" which acts as a melodic thread throughout the piece. The organ introduction is based on the chant antiphon and the hymn tune is also reminiscent of the chant. In the second verse the chant is sung by the women simultaneously with the men as they sing the hymn tune. The organ interludes are quite developed making the organ a "fifth voice" in this hymn-anthem. The final verse is sung a cappella and ends with a peaceful coda from the organ using the chant. This piece continues Dr. Saylor's long tradition of expertly realized hymn-anthems and can be used throughout the church year.
