Composed by Hector Berlioz. Edited by Felix Weingartner & Charles Malherbe. Arranged by Charles Ainslie Barry. This edition: Paperback. Liturgical, Original Works, Transcriptions, Choral. Romantic Period; Sacred/Hymns, French. Vocal score (Barry). With Text Language: Latin. Composed 1855. Duration 55 minutes. Serenissima #19337. Published by Serenissima (SA.19337).
ISBN 9781932419337. 9.5 x 12.5 inches.
Completed in 1849, the Te Deum, like the earlier and more famous Grande Messe des Morts, is one of Berlioz's self-described architectural works. While the orchestral forces required for the Te Deum are nowhere near as massive as huge as those for the Requiem, the work does call for an organ which can compete on equal terms with the rest of the orchestra. It lasts approximately fifty minutes and derives its text from the traditional Latin Te Deum, although Berlioz made some changes to word order for dramatic purposes. The instrumental Prelude and Marche are seldom performed in concert. This vocal score is a digitally enhanced reprint of the one issued by G. Schirmer, Inc. around 1925, itself a re-engraving of the one issued by Novello in the 1880s.
