The cantata Nimm, was dein ist, und gehe hin (Take what is yours and go your way), written for Septuagesima (the third Sunday before Lent) in 1724, opens with a motet-fugue for choir without obbligato instruments. This is followed by the dancelike lyrical aria "Murre nicht, lieber Christ" (Do not murmur, dear Christian) whose ritornello makes the "murmuring" of the text clearly audible. Before the recitative leading to the second aria, Bach inserts the chorale "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan", the first line of which also concludes the next recitative. The aria "Genügsamkeit ist ein Schatz in diesem Leben" for oboe d’amore, soprano, and continuo maintains the cantata’s songlike character. The work concludes with the chorale "Was mein Gott will, das gescheh allzeit".
