The cellos and basses lay a foundaiton of eighth notes throughout. The advanced cellos open up the song with a hemiola melody. Violins and viola perform as an ensemble within throughout. There is a measure in the 1st violin section that occurs several times throughout the piece, which can be played by the entire section, or select players (even as a solo). If you tell the students that it will be a solo, they will all want to learn it. The orchestra will enjoy this fun-filled journey on the road to musical excellence.
