Hoewel ze onderling verdeeld waren vormden ze tegenover de buitenwereld een front. Erasmus herintroduceerde het woord om een harmonisatie met onderliggende tegenstellingen aan te duiden. U kunt dit ook terug horen in Penders’ Synkretismos: een aantal onderling afwijkende partijen die toch op hamonieuze wijze samengaan en die verenigd worden door 1 thema.
The term synkretismos has been used by Plutarchus to indicate the unity-front of the people of Kreta. Although they quarrelled among themselves constantly, towards strangers from overseas they formed one front. Erasmus re-introduced the word. He meant to indicate a harmonisation of contrary tendencies with it. In this sense the title of this work has to be understood: a number of substantial parts in diverge ways, which nevertheless go together in a harmonious way.
Le terme synkretismos est le nom que donnait Plutarque au front uni qui était formé par le peuple de Crète. Bien que divisé entre eux ils formaient un front contre le monde extérieur. Erasmus a réintroduit le mot pour viser une harmonisation avec des oppositions sous-jacentes. Vous pouvez entendre cette signification dans le Synkretismos de Pender : un nombre de parts différents entre eux, qui pourtant fusionnent harmonieusement et sont unies par un seul thème.
Der Term Synkretismus ist der Name den Plutarchus an die Einheitsfront, die die Bevölkerung Kretas bildete, gab. Obwohl sie untereinander verteilt waren, bildeten sie gegenüber der Außenwelt eine Front. Erasmus führte den Begriff erneut ein um eine Harmonisierung mit unterliegenden Gegenstellungen an zu deuten. Sie können das auch in Penders Synkretismos zurückfinden: eine Anzahl untereinander verschiedenartige Parteien, die sich doch auf harmonische Weise verbinden und die durch ein Thema vereinigt werden.
