The Second Symphony in C minor, op. 14 (1999, revised in 2003 and 2026), is a cyclical, concentrated and energetic composition in Neo-classical style. Note the anapest rhythmic figure pervading the entire symphony and unifying its motivic developments. First, there is a dramatic and terse sonata movement (Allegro con brio) with torrential polyphonic development, followed directly by a surprisingly vivacious and extended Scherzo (Presto). The sectional slow movement (Andante moderato) is brooding and lyrical, while the finale (Allegro vivace) is an exuberant, enthusiastic sonata movement developed through various polyphonic techniques.
