Composed by Adrian Gagiu. This edition: pdf, streaming. 20th Century, Classical. Full Orchestra. 379 pages. Adrian Gagiu #1308342. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1747674).
Symphony No. 1 in C major (1995, revised in 1999 and 2025) is a neoclassical, cyclical, over-ambitious composition toning down the previous influences from Shostakovich and Bartok in an attempt to be palatable for a lay public. The first movement (Sostenuto e pesante - Allegro) is a peculiar sonata form with slow introduction, the secondary theme appearing first, and most of its rhapsodic structure (especially in the main theme group) inevitably preserved, besides its energetic character. The second movement (Andante con moto e affettuoso) is a gentle set of variations in F major, featuring the organ and followed immediately by the third movement (Allegro moderato e sereno), a developed, yet soft canon in G major for strings alone. The fourth movement (Allegro - Andante con moto), in A minor, begins with an introduction for solo piano and is an extended and severe triple canon for strings and trumpets. The finale (Allegro maestoso), in C major, follows without a pause, is a set of majestic variations on a theme presented by the full organ, and ends with an expansive tutti fugue reminiscing all the themes of the symphony and then with a soft anticlimax for organ and tubular bells. Total duration: 52 mins. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is the first movement.
