Published by Rudy Volkmann (A0.1655122).When I was a young college graduate, the National Music Camp in 1964 was a total eye-opener with respect to musical quality. For the first time in my life I was not one of the very few good musicians in the room, and I realized how much more there was to learn. To call the experience life-changing would barely touch the total effect.
The (arguably) strongest performing group at the time was the High School Symphonic Band, and the arrangements of orchestral music they performed under the stars in The Bowl were truly amazing. With the size of the ensemble and the quality of the performers, it was a sound I never again heard anywhere else.
As an old man, I thought to pay homage to that experience by writing a piece that I hoped would sound like one of those old orchestra transcripts; this composition is the result.
Each of the four movements can be considered a separate stand-alone piece
I lovingly dedicate this to the High School Symphonic Band of the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan.
