The history of the genesis of the 5 ème Symphonie op. 47 begins in Stresa on Lake Maggiore in September 1923 with the composition of the Larghetto. Vierne was on a concert tour of Switzerland and Italy at the time. Vierne’s most extensive Symphony was completed in 1924 and was published in 1925 by Durand & Cie, Paris.
