This collection presents well-known folk songs - with a twist: the tunes, newly arranged for melodic instrument and piano, are slightly jazzy and mixed with pop music elements - making traditional songs sound fresh and interesting again! All pieces are very melodic in character and work well even without piano accompaniment, which makes them particularly suitable for use in the classroom.
The piano accompaniment is available on CD as a PDF file and can be printed in professional quality. The CD also contains backing tracks for each piece - which lends a live feeling in performance! This collection is perfect for all lovers of the 'crossover' between folk, jazz and pop - by Schott's best-selling author Dirko Juchem who has been active as a saxophonist, saxophone teacher and specialist author nationally and internationally for many years.

I love that this comes with a real cd and not an audio download.I can use the cd wherever I play but cannot get the audio cd/digital downloads to play on demand wherever/whenever I may be

Wonderful book
I bought this book to play for residents of nursing home. I don't have time to practice, so I loved that every piece was sight-readable. Audience loved the jazz/swing versions to songs they already knew. This was a big hit! I took some of the pieces up an octave. Plan on buying the other books in the Swinging series.

Two are Terrific
There are two songs in this book that i love to play. They have evident swing elements that make them great fun. The rest of the songs are too easy. Some of them would be better speeded up, but my player does not do that. One song has excellent swing accompaniment, but it is not a challenge for the soloist because his part stays the same.
