Hugo Alfven was een Zweeds violist (leerling van César Thomson in Brussel), dirigent en componist die dertig jaar muziekdirecteur aan de universiteit van Uppsala was. Hij componeerde o.m. vijf symfonieën, koorwerken en drie Zweedse Rhapsodieën waarvan de eerste 'Midzomerwake' (Midsommarvaka) uit 1904 de bekendste is. Alfvén was een knap dirigent, zo dirigeerde hij in 1954 de eerste stereoplaatopname in Zweden en daarop stond natuurlijk zijn beroemde Swedish Rhapsody, de populaire versie van het hoofdthema uit de eerste Zweedse Rhapsodie.

Hugo Alfven was a Swedish violinist (pupil of César Thomson in Brussels), conductor and composer who was musical director at the Uppsala University for thirty years. He composed five symphonies, choral works and three Swedish Rhapsodies of which the first 'Midsommarvarka' (Midsummer's watch) from 1904 is the most famous. Alfvén was a great conductor and conducted in 1954 the first Swedish stereo recording session which also included his famous Swedish Rhapsody, the popular version of the main theme of his first Swedish Rhapsody.

Il compose cinq symphonies, des choeurs et trois rhapsodies suédoises dont la première 'Misommarvaka' (Veillée au milieu de l'été), composée en 1904, est la plus connue. Alfvén dirige le premier enregistrement stéréophonique suédois sur disque comprenant sa célèbre Rhapsodie Suédoise, la version populaire du thème principal de sa première rhapsodie.

Hugo Alfven war ein schwedischer Geiger (Lehrling von César Thomson in Brüssel), Dirigent und Komponist, der dreißig Jahre als Musikdirektor an der Universität in Uppsala beschäftigt war. Er komponierte, unter anderem, fünf Symphonien, Chorwerke und drei schwedische Rhapsodien, von denen die erste, 'Midsommarvaka' (Mittsommernachtsfest) aus 1904 die bekannteste ist. Alfvén war ein begabter Dirigent, so dirigierte er 1954 die erste Stereoschallplattenaufnahme in Schweden, auf dieser selbstverständlich seine berühmte Swedish Rhapsody eingespielt worden ist. Es handelte sich um die populäre Fassung des Hauptthemas, seiner ersten schwedischen Rhapsodie.
