A bold fanfare composition for the youngest of students. Larry Clark has a knack for writing music that sounds more sophisticated than it is technically to play. There are no faster rhythms than quarter notes in Supernova, but it will make your beginners sound great!.
A supernova is a star that suddenly increases greatly in brightness because of a catastrophic explosion that ejects most of its mass. It was my intent to compose an explosive fanfare type of composition for the youngest of students with this piece.The piece contains very limited rhythms and notes but still has a bold character with more complex harmonies than are normally played in pieces of this ability level. There are some close dissonances and open intervals that will make the piece sound more exciting for the students and audiences alike. As with all of my pieces at this level the tempi can be adjusted to meet the needs of your students.The piece opens at a more majestic tempo and sets up the fanfare material and harmonic material that is used throughout the piece. It should be played almost like a mini "Fanfare for the Common Man" in its approach. This is followed by a faster, but more joyous section, where the main themes is stated. There is then interplay between the main theme and the fanfare material from the beginningfor the rest of the piece. The fanfare material is also altered to be legato at times and more marcato at others. Special care should be give to making sure these contrasts come across.It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to write this piece.
