The music of older video games includes some of the most ear catching melodies and they also are repeated many times while you play the game, so they are not necessarily boring. This (Nintendo) power, along with my love for percussion, led to my desire to arrange themes from the original Super Mario Bros. game for percussion ensemble. I arranged this medley during the summer of 2005 by video taping (yes, VHS) myself playing the game on the original 8‐bit Nintendo
Entertainment System and transcribing the music from the tape. Therefore, what you play and hear in this piece is very close to what you hear while playing the game. Now it is 2021 and I still currently have a NES and a SEGA plugged in and ready to play. They are in the same room as my marimba… if you have this, then you have the same love for old video games and percussion. Please enjoy!
