Summertime by Ira Gershwin Jazz Ensemble - Digital Sheet Music

By George Gershwin

Shane Porter and the New South Jazz Orchestra, featuring Annie McClendon on vocals, do a slightly different take on the “Porgy and Bess” favorite “Summertime”. From an afro-latinesque opening with the drums and bass into the full saxophone and brass section to set-up Mrs. McClendon’s vocal entrance. After a soulful verse, the band builds to the Improvisational Trombone Solo. The Saxophone section takes over for a short Sax Soli that has a bit of a twist leading back to the vocal entrance by Ms. Mclendon. The last chorus has a trumpet soloist building to the upper register, intertwined with the vocal line, which also leads to a high. Then a slower, more rubato phrase as the winds softly follow the vocalist into a somewhat unexpected ending. (Some portions of the Trombone and Trumpet solos have been written in for reference, as well has having chord changes.)
