This work is a compact suite in one movement based on a folk theme from Lorestan, Iran. The original melody was introduced to the public in 60s by Vigen (Viguen Derderian, 1929 – 2003). Despite its early popularity, the melody has largely faded from public memory. Arash Aalaei composed this work for full orchestra to demonstrate how expressive, flexible, and expansible this theme can be when developed symphonically.
Although the piece does not follow the traditional multi-movement structure of a suite—and could arguably be classified as a rhapsody—the composer deliberately chose the title suite. This decision refers to the dance-based nature of the original folk culture from which the theme originates, emphasizing continuity, movement, and ritual rather than formal segmentation.
